Wow, what a feeling! I'm so proud and overwhelmed with happiness to declare that Cleo's officially Canadian. We got her citizenship certificate and card in the mail today and she became a Canadian on May 31st. It took almost 2 months, which is significantly faster than we had thought it would take originally. We were expecting it to take close to a year as families were experiencing in the not so distant past...but it appears that the government has finally recognized and taken efforts to reduce the wait times for children adopted by Canadians! It's a huge moment for us as Canadians and her parents, I'm so proud of being Canadian and it's such a relief to see Cleo's official documentation. When I noticed earlier this week that her citizenship had been granted (I check the online CIC site regularly), I burst into tears....what great news for our little girl! Canada's newest citizen!! Welcome to the family indeed! What's all the fuss about Mom & Dad? Proud parents! |

It feels like just yesterday I was posting that she was 15 months....the time is flying super fast now! Big updates for this month include running (constantly) and walking backwards. She's also added “ahhh-pull” (aka apple) to her vocabulary and blowing kisses while saying “bye”. On the sign language front she's now a frequent user of the sign for “more” - no surprises there! She uses it in almost all contexts...more food, more books, more, more, more! She's quite the cheeky little girl with a great sense of humour. It's amazing how big she's becoming, I can still remember when she couldn't touch the footrest for her highchair and it was a big deal that she could flip it with our help...now she pulls it up and down on her own. She's also quite the bookworm....reading is a constant source of entertainment. With the weather being so great in May she was able to take full advantage of her outdoor toys including her sandbox and little house. Blackberries are definitely this month's favourite food....her intake needs to be controlled or she'd eat them until she dropped (again, “more”)! So much action and constant motion around this place. Everyday is a new adventure for her. Look Mom, I've got my toes!! Just one at a time, right?! More, I want more!! See ya later! Peak a boo! Could someone come and help me with this? |

This was my first Mother's Day and I have to say that it was very emotional for me. After all that time waiting and longing to be a Mom it was almost anti-climatic when the day finally arrived. It brought back many memories, especially those of last year when we realized that the delays in China would mean the wait would be a lot longer than we had originally planned. Clearly it was all worth while as Cleo's the best child I could have hoped for.....she really is the child of my dreams....she made me a Mom! Proud Mommy! The family! Cleo and her grapes...don't try to steal them! |
